The Willow Wheelers annual 100 mile charity cycle takes place this year on Sunday the 2nd of May (May bank holiday weekend). The cycle is, as usual, in aid of the Holy Ghost missions in Sierra Leone. Participation in this popular event is limited to those who have raised sponsorship for this worthy cause. Sponsorship forms are available for the Willow Park school, and may be obtained by contacting the school during normal business hours. Please note that all cyclists must have obtained sponsorship in order to participate, and entries cannot be made on the morning / day of the cycle. We have attempted to provide you with a copy of the letter / fax requesting
sponsorship support. Please read the instructions in the small text below before,
clicking on the highlighted text above to open the document. Last year Stephen Roche and his son Nicholas Roche participated in and completed the 100 mile cycle with the Wheelers. It is hoped and anticipated that Stephen will be cycling with us again this year, on the assumption that his travel timetable goes to plan and he arrives back into the country on time. Thanks are due to Stephen for his continued support of the club and this annual 100 mile charity event. We feel that it is important for all participants to be aware that 100% off the monies raised by the cycle will go directly missions in Sierra Leone. All organisational / administration costs and all food / drink costs are absorbed by the sponsors of the event. At this point we would like to take the opportunity to express our thanks to the following sponsors for their continuing support and generosity: T-Shirts - First Active Commentary / Promotion - 2FM Fruit - John Power & Company. Minerals - United Beverages Sweets - Mars Post Event Food - Blackrock College As is the case with things of this nature, we may accidentally omit to individually mention and thank one of our sponsors. If this is the case, we do apologise, and assure you that your support is appreciated. We will correct our omission just as soon as it is brought to our attention. The fruit, sweets and minerals will be distributed to all the cyclists on the day, at various rest / break points on the cycle. The Garda Traffic Department will again this year be escorting us through the city centre both on our outwards and return legs of the cycle. We would like to express out thanks to the Garda Traffic Department for their continued support of this event. Their presence is appreciated by all the cyclists. Dr. Kieran Bent and the St.Johns / Order of Malta ambulance services will be providing emergency medical coverage on the day. Their continued support is also greatly appreciated. A rough timetable for the day is as follows: 7.30am Mass in the Blackrock Chapel Kilcock On arrival at the school all participants can avail of a swim and a shower in the college swimming pool, and hot food will be provided afterwards. The post 100 mile post-mortem on the trials and tribulations of the day will take place in Blackrock College RFC (Stradbrook Road, Blackrock) from 9.30pm to 11.30pm. Click here to get to the report and photos of the day, in the "100 Mile - After" page. |
