Wednesday 7th
INSERT THE MAYORS PRESENTATION INFORMATION AND PICTURES HERE.
It was 12.00 by the time the Mayors presentation was finished. This did not leave much
time to do any major cycling, so the groups took the opportunity make their official
visits to the shops / supermarkets in nearly La Rochelle. This was the boys opportunity to
shop for presents for parents, brothers and sisters. Most groups visited the
"Carrefour" shopping centre on the near side of La Rochelle. The senior group in
a bid to get to a "Decathlon" sports shop cycled to the Carrefour centre on the
far side of La Rochelle. They were rewarded for their extra distance, as they were able to
get some cycling gear that were looking for, that would have been unavailable elsewhere.
In the meantime the other groups were spending every last Franc they had, and were
thoroughly enjoying it. The cars again provided transport of the goodies back to the
hotel. The shopping over, all the groups had to be back at the hotel for 4.00pm, in time
for the official visit of the club to the swimming pool.
The pool already had several groups in it by the time we arrived, but they were able to
accommodate us, much to our relief. The lads had great time. There was a long and fast
water slide with got great use. There were several jacuzzi like baths to relax any aching
muscles in. The greatest attraction turned out to be an innocent looking
"Octopus"-like inflatable that was anchored in the middle of the pool. Initially
it was used as a diving platform, but later the object of the afternoon was to try to get
to the top of it without getting knocked off it by a fellow cyclist.
While the non-swimming adults supervised the
kids from the pool-side snack bar (see Gary McElroy here to the left as he poses with a
cheesey grin for the camera), some of the adults took the opportunity to relax away from
the kids in the pools sauna / steam room complex. |

Bob Semple went the whole hog and visited the "Thelosatherapie", situated
just across the road from the hotel, while the main group was at the pool. At the
thelosatherapie centre he had a several full body massages interspersed with steam baths,
cold showers, and therapeutic seaweed. (Yes, seaweed). He did not relate too many of the
details of his visit to the centre, but he looked like a very happy camper afterwards, so
it must have been good.
We had an early dinner tonight, 6.00pm (fish
again), due to the fact that the entire group was to head into La Rochelle on two coaches
to watch the Manchester United vs Juventus soccer match. On arrival in La Rochelle
at 7.45pm, we split into smaller groups and dispersed ourselves around the centre of La
Rochelle into various bars and cafes that were showing the match. |

Some of the adults having spared themselves
another fish dinner back at the hotel, had some food in La Rochelle. |
The match went well for all the MU fans, and spirits were high later in the evening.
After the match the kids under the supervision of some of the adults visited an arcade.
This seemed to be the highlight of the evening for most, even surpassing the MU win.
We left La Rochelle at about 10.30, and after a few light refreshments in the Hotel,
everyone retired for the night.
